Wet Film Comb Gauges

These simple inexpensive comb gauges provide a useful aid to checking the depth of a coating of paint, enamel, laquer, adhesive or other material that has been applied to a smooth surface. They are precision-ground in stainless steel, supplied in a credit-card size wallet and are easily cleaned.

INTRODUCTION
These simple inexpensive comb gauges provide a useful aid to checking the depth of a coating of paint, enamel lacquer, adhesive or other material that has been applied to a smooth surface.

DESCRIPTION
The combs are precision-ground in stainless steel, supplied in a credit card size wallet and are easily cleaned in an appropriate solvent with no risk or damage. A set of three gauges provides an overall range of 0 – 1200 mm ( 0 – 48 thou or mils ) as follows :

RANGE STEP GRADUATION
1. 5 – 120 mm ( 0 – 5 thou ) 5 mm
2 25 – 600 mm ( 0 – 24 thou ) 25 mm DIMENSIONS 60 x 30 x 2mm each
3. 50 – 1200 mm ( 0 – 48 thou ) 50 mm WEIGHT 22 grams each
Conforms with ASTM D4414 - Procedure ‘A’, BS3900 - Part C5, ISO 2808 - Method 7B

METHOD OF USE
1. Select appropriate comb according to approximate known thickness.
2. Hold comb perpendicular to surface coating to be measured.
3. Press into coating until the comb stands square on substrate.
4. Wet film thickness is between the highest step which is coated and the next ( higher ) step which remains
uncoated.
